I get a TON of questions about choosing a niche through my desk.
And a lot of people, it seems, are getting stuck here.
My reply is ALWAYS:
“Don’t get too hung up on it”
and…
“If it’s NOT poke you in the eye obvious..then you’re doing it wrong and it probably won’t be very profitable.”
Amongst actual advice that’s the general gist of it.
Because if you go too small and obscure, you have to practically OWN the entire niche to make a decent income…Hard.
If you go too big, you’re going to get crushed to death. (Painful)
So here’s 3 core things you need to be looking for in a niche:
1/Profitable
2/Scalable
3/Repeatable
And here’s a biggie…
You’re not just choosing a niche….
You’re choosing and building a reputation in it.
So with that in mind…
Here’s a few more pointers:
1/ Does it get you excited? Think about what really gets you excited or what you enjoy doing in your free time.
It could be anything from cooking to pets to gaming.
^ by the way..ALL of those are profitable.
Start by making a list.
Good old fashioned pen and paper.
Don’t use your computer or anything digital.
WRITE IT DOWN with a pen.
There’s something about brain to hand connection that makes things stick in your mind when you physically write things down.
It works very well for me.
(Look it up, there was an entire study on it!)
In the IM niche, Affiliate marketing get’s me excited and I LOVE teaching it!
Once you have your list, do some online research.
2/ Look for popular trends (I use Google trends for this a lot), see what people are talking about on social media.
Facebook is great for this, you can search for groups and browse them and get a good feel for what people are talking about.
It will also give you a pretty decent idea of demand and competition.
3/ Narrow it down: Think about which niches have a good-sized audiences with lots of sub-niches and room for growth. Think anything to do with: Health, Wealth, Relationships.
4/ Now, think about how you can make money from it.
Can you sell products or services related to it?
Can you partner with companies as an affiliate? (Clickbank have TONS of products you can promote).
I would personally also look into different ways people are monetising similar niches and choose one that suits you.
There’s a few more things you can do to stack the deck a bit more but there’s enough in this email to get you going for now.
I recently came across a terrific resource of 147 Booming, Fully-Researched And White Hot Profitable Niches.
Not just ANY niches…
But a HIGHLY profitable ones!
